encyclopedia of adoption
Also called adoption cancellation insurance, adoption insurance is relatively new to the field of insurance. This form of insurance will pay for expenses in the event that a birth mother in a U.S. adoption does not go through with the planned adoption. According to Best's Review-Property-Casualty, coverage is available for adoption payments of $5,000, $10,000, $15,000 and $30,000. MBO Insurance Brokers, in Menlo Park, California, underwritten by Kemper Insurance Company in Long Grove, Illinois, offers adoption insurance nationwide.
MBO receives more than 100 calls per month about adoption cancellation insurance and in 1997, sold about 500 policies.
