Voluntary agreement between two or more parties. An attorney may require a contract with adopting parents before the adoption can proceed.
Although pregnant women may sign contracts with attorneys or other parties prior to the birth of their children, women in every state may change their mind about adoption subsequent to the child's birth. The length of time allowed after consent is signed and the timing of when consent may be signed vary from state to state. (See also CONSENT [TO AN ADOPTION]; NOTICE; REVOCATION.)
