direct placement
An adoption arranged by the birthparents and adoptive parents with only peripheral involvement of an agency or attorney. Some states mandate that an independent adoption is only lawful if the adopting parents or birthparents themselves plan the adoption.
Infants in a direct placement are usually placed immediately from the hospital. (See also DESIGNATED ADOPTION; IMMEDIATE PLACEMENTS.)
