unwed parents
The majority of birthparents who voluntarily choose adoption for their infants are unwed, and experts estimate 92% to 94% of all infants placed for adoption are born to single parents. The majority of these parents are over age 18. (See also BIRTHMOTHER; BIRTHFATHER; BIRTHPARENT; ILLEGITIMACY; MARRIED BIRTHPARENTS; MATURE WOMEN PLANNING ADOPTION.)
